“Generosity breaks the power of greed!” -A Barnhart
“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for the orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” -James 1:27
TAKE HEART!
Why are some people generous? Maybe they were there in need once themselves and have a simple empathy for those who are there now. Maybe they are just grateful for what they have been given. Given is a key word. It keeps us from saying: I earned it, I deserve it and I’m keeping it!
The second key word in being generous is Hope. Hope is the belief that our actions can impact the outcome for someone else. Hope leads us to generosity. It keeps us from seeing the situation as hopeless and that we are insignificant and unable to change anything. “That’s just the way it is! What can one person do?” Hope tells us one person can make a difference. And God can use that one person’s generosity in very powerful ways.
When I think about my own generosity of money and materials things, time, energy and focus, love, and acts of kindness, I wonder what my life would be like if I lived more of this out every day?
I plan to be more intentional. How about you?
