“Knock, knock! Who’s there?”
“And to anyone who knocks, the door will be open.” -Matthew 7:8
TAKE HEART!
The children’s “knock, Knock” joke is well known, easily told and usually brings a quick smile or groan, followed by a smile.
I am thinking about that joke today as we start a new year. I see life as often being a series of knocking. Life brings us to the door of possibilities, and we are standing on the doorstep. What’s on the other side? It is both exciting and scary. Opportunity is like that. To knock or not to knock, that is the question. Sorry, Shakespeare…
The greatest door we can knock on is the door of HOPE. We don’t know what’s on the other side, but we stand on the doorstep. Maybe we followed our calling to this place. Maybe our struggles brought us here with no place left to go. Do we see our future as bright or on the verge of desperation? However we got to the door, we have the choice to knock.
No worries go ahead and knock. The great thing about the Door of Hope is that it comes with the promise that the door will always open. That the someone who waits for us on the other side is WHO we need.
As I see it, we knock. He answers and opens the door. We step in. The door closes behind us. We are home. We are loved. We are never alone, never without hope again.
